Do you have sensitive eyes? Pay attention to this when choosing your cosmetics
Red, watery, or itchy eyes after applying makeup? You're not alone. Many people suffer from sensitive eyes, which can make the search for the perfect mascara, eyeliner, or false eyelashes quite a challenge.
At Olimbera, we believe that beauty should never come with irritation. That's why we've listed the most important tips for choosing safe cosmetics for your sensitive eyes.
1. Check the ingredient list (Avoid irritants)
Sensitive eyes often react to specific chemicals. Try to avoid products that contain heavy perfumes, parabens, or strong preservatives.
- Our tip: Look for terms like 'Hypoallergenic' or 'Ophthalmologically tested'. This means that the products have been specially tested and found safe for the eyes and for contact lens wearers.
2. The right lash glue is crucial
For false lash enthusiasts, the glue is often the culprit for irritation. Many traditional glues contain latex or formaldehyde, substances known to cause allergic reactions.
- The solution: Always choose a latex-free and formaldehyde-free lash glue. At Olimbera, we recommend investing in a quality glue that is gentle on the skin but still provides all-day hold.
3. Pay attention to the expiration date
We often forget, but makeup spoils. Old mascaras and liquid eyeliners are breeding grounds for bacteria, which can be disastrous for sensitive eyes.
- The rule: Replace your mascara and liquid products every 3 to 6 months. Do you see the symbol of an open jar on the packaging? The number inside (e.g., 6M) tells you exactly how many months the product is shelf-stable after opening.
4. Less is often more (The waterline technique)
If you are prone to irritation, it's best to prevent product from getting directly into your eye.
- The technique: Avoid applying thick layers of eyeliner or kohl pencil to the so-called 'waterline' (the inner edge of your eyelid). Instead, apply your makeup just outside the lash line for a beautiful effect without the discomfort.
5. Always test on a small patch of skin first
Have you bought a new product? Then be patient.
- The patch test: Apply a small amount of the product (e.g., the lash glue) to the inside of your wrist or behind your ear. Wait 24 hours to see if a reaction occurs before using it on your eyes.
